Frame Glued and Ready.
I have been very busy the last couple of weeks working on R2, but I am terrible when it cames to taking before and after pictures. I always remember about taking a before picture until I am done.
Below is my actual assembled frame. I enjoyed putting it together.
What type of Frame and Legs?
After spending some time reading and reviewing many Astromech.net member's posts, I decided that our R2 would have both a wooden frame and legs. The next thing I did was to acknowledge/accept that my carpentry skill (cutting pieces from plans and temples) and tools were not sufficient for the task at hand. So I decided to buy wooden frame and leg kits. The pictures below are not my pictures, but they are from the same type of kits:
Joining the R2Builders Yahoo Group
I have been wanting to build a R2 for years. I knew that once I was ready and serious about building a R2, I would need to register with both the R2builders Yahoo Group and Astromech.net.
As the Astromech.net. website states, "The R2Builders Yahoo Group site, and the forums and wiki here at Astromech.net are invaluable sources of information. These archives hold the wisdom of builders past and present, and will help you find answers to your questions. All builders should spend time researching their builds in these places. As well as learn the search tools available with them"

The Project Begins
A month ago my wife suggested that we should build an R2-D2, being a good husband; I told her that it sounded like a good idea. Why would I question her judgment? My wife and I have always liked R2-D2.
As a member of both the 501st Legion and the Rebel Legion, I have participated in many events while in costume, with my wife in attendance. My wife has always wanted to participate in the events, but is not really into wearing armor or costumes. Therefore, my wife decided that we would build an R2 for her to operate at Star Wars events with me.
So the adventure has begun....
